The ACESS Honors and Awards Banquet (Thursday, November 1-- reserve now on this website!) is ACESS's signature event. It's put on by an intrepid and admired Committee which is about to lose a key member with much experience, Brent Sisler. We're in good shape for November 1 but we'd like to add a new member now to this critical crew. You can see how it works now and be in a good position to suggest improvements for subsequent Banquets.
Desired Qualities of Respondent:
We welcome persons who like to bring our member Societies in the technical community together, and like to celebrate the accomplishments of the STEM community. If you've attended the Banquet or belong to one of our member Societies, you understand what this is about and we hope you've enjoyed the occasion. But if you are new to us and understand events like the Banquet you've seen the real desired qualities: people work very hard to produce such an event and you have to work well with others when it's crunch time.
Scope / Commitment:
Committees re-organize, of course. If you don't like the part about "the all-night session to print the program", we don't either! You may know how to do this better. Brent sends out the annual solicitation letter for the ACESS Honors & Awards Banquet and keeps up-to-date the names to which it is sent. He and another Banquet Committee member print the certificates that honor our high school students. He reserves meeting rooms at Northwest Family Recreation Center for this Banquet Committee’s roughly-dozen-a-year planning meetings, works with Sheila King and the Committee as reservations are received, shows up for the all-night session to print the Banquet program on the University of Akron Research Foundation’s (UARF) printer, and helps “work the reception table” on Banquet night. This is a big job and requires a large commitment of time. It is no exaggeration to say that we require a person with competence, leadership and hospitality—Banquet Night is when we meet parents, students, teachers, and other members of the community for whom the Banquet is as big an event as it is for us.
