SCHOLARSHIPS

· Two $1,500 scholarships given annually, one to a student at Kent State University and one to a student at The University of Akron. To be eligible for these awards the students must be working toward a four-year degree that is related to one of the disciplines represented by an ACESS member society. The winners are chosen based on GPA, field experience in the discipline, science fair participation, extracurricular activities, participation in student chapters of technical societies, career objectives, and financial need. The Education Committee handles this selection.

· Awards are given each year to outstanding projects at two science fairs held for public and private school students. ACESS both provides and coordinates the funding and awards from member societies and corporations for the students. ACESS members and societies' members also recruit judges for these fairs. The Community Relations Committee has been handling these events since 1982. The fairs are:

· Akron Science and Technology Expo – an annual fair hosted by the Akron Public Schools.

· Western Reserve District Science Day – an annual regional fair hosted by The University of Akron. Qualifiers at this fair go on to the Ohio State Science Day.
